System for Atmospheric Modeling (SAM) - is the cloud-resolving model (CRM) that evolved from a Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) model that I coded while being a Ph.D student at the University of Oklahoma. SAM has been used by several researchers in the US and Canada. It is a parallel model that uses domain decomposition and MPI communication protocol.
Multiscale-Modeling Framework (MMF) - has become a big deal but has grown from a little project that we did with David Randall in 2001. The MMF is basically a climate model with modest-domain CRMs injected in each grid column to add explicit cloud processes. Very expensive but promising approach to climate modeling. Also known as "a GCM with Super-Parameterization".
